What is a money market account?
A money market account allows an investor to earn interest on money for a non-determined length of time. If you do not need immediate access to your money, a money market account is an excellent investment. It allows you the flexibility to access your money as needs arise.

What is the rate of return on a money market account?
Interest rates on money market accounts vary with each financial institution. The more you invest, the better return can be expected. Money market accounts interest rates are still better than a regular passbook savings account will be able to offer. Since there is no timeframe for investing, the interest rate on a money market account would be less than what could be earned on a certificate of deposit (CD).

Take the time and do a thorough search of financial institutions since the interest rates do vary on money market accounts.

Are there withdrawl penalties for money market accounts?
There are typically no withdrawl penalties on money market accounts. Some financial institutions may limit the number of withdrawls you can make in any given month.

Bankers and investment advisers say the accounts can benefit people who don't need hands-on service but warn that returns are not the only factor to consider.
